Try a heart-friendly herb. The leaves and flowers of the herb hawthorn contain abundant supplies of compounds called flavonoids. Flavonoids improve the heart’s pumping ability and the flow of blood through the circulatory system. “Hawthorn is very useful in treating CHF, especially in the early stages;” Dr. Pizzorno says.

Since hawthorn is such a potent herb, check with your doctor before you begin taking it. It may interfere with some high blood pressure medications and could be dangerous to those with low blood pressure.

Feel better with willow bark. The herb willow bark contains a compound, salicin, that’s the chemical forerunner of aspirin. Like aspirin, willow bark can help prevent the blood clotting that leads to heart attack and stroke. If the latest research is any indication, the herb may also benefit people with CHF.

If you’d like to try willow bark, take it as a tea, suggests James A. Duke, Ph.D. Simmer 1 teaspoon of the powdered herb in 1 cup of boiling water for 10 minutes, then strain. Drink two to three cupfuls daily.

Social Support

Find someone to lean on. People with CHF who get emotional support from others are much more likely to manage their symptoms effectively. Harland Krumholz, M.D., associate professor of medicine at Yale University School of Medicine, analyzed the medical records of 292 elderly women who had developed heart failure. He found that compared with those who received the most emotional support, the women who felt socially isolated were eight times more likely to complain of CHF symptoms.

To find a CHF support group in your area, ask your doctor or contact your local office of the American Heart Association.

Home Remedies

Lose those extra pounds. Being overweight raises your blood pressure and makes your heart work harder to move blood through all the extra tissue. Losing weight, on the other hand, lowers your blood pressure and gives your tired heart a break.

Research shows that the combination of weight control and sodium restriction can make an even bigger difference in your blood pressure and, therefore, in CHF symptoms.

Anxiety is defined as a natural reaction to stressors while abrupt feelings of overwhelming fear describe episodes of panic attacks. Though considered as normal and manageable emotions, the encounter of tremendous panic and anxiety considerably affects an individual’s capacity to function efficiently in the conduct of routine activities.

Anxiety and panic attacks are among the typical nervous system disorders that most people opt to endure alone while hardly seeking qualified medical attention to address the condition. But why let feelings of anxiety and panic ruin your life? Even more, why not submit to treatments that would help ease out the symptoms and discomforts that come along with these nervine disorders? There are natural treatments available if you’re worried of the potential side effects of antidepressant medications.

For many centuries, herbal remedies have been used in traditional health care systems to provide natural relief to nervous tension. Today, modern medicine has taken into consideration the therapeutic properties of herbal extracts and even homeopathic substances to ease the behavioral and somatic symptoms of panic and anxiety attacks by probing into its active compounds and confirming them as a likely alternative to MAOIs, SSRIs and Beta-blockers.

Herbal Remedies

Lemon balm teas were traditionally administered to calm the mind. For ages, people have relied on its extracts to treat the symptoms of depression and anxiety disorders; and infusions of the herb were prepared to treat headaches and nervousness. Its bioactive compounds – flavonoids, polyphenols, tannins, and triterpenes contain antioxidant and anti-hemorrhoidal properties that are relevant in healing nervine conditions. The herb induces relaxation by curtailing modes of anxiety and irritability.

Lavender on the other hand is regarded as the ultimate relaxation herb. It contains linalool and lavandulyl acetate-active constituents that help ease nervous tension. Linalyl Acetate, an anti-inflammatory substance known to effectively ease nervine pain, is also present in its extracts. Lavender extracts are traditionally used to relieve stress, headaches and fatigue. As a tonic, it reinforces the nervous system against episodes of exhaustion. Meanwhile in aromatherapy, the herb is used to clear moods of depression while inducing sleep.

Passion Flower is yet another herb that contains a boost of flavonoids known for its anti-anxiety effects. Traditionally administered to ease nervous restlessness, the herb has been observed to lower blood pressure as a way of promoting relaxation to the body. Due to its anti-inflammatory properties, the herb can help relieve neuralgia and as an antispasmodic, the Passion Flower eases the tremors and nervous shaking associated with panic attacks.

Standardized Herbal Supplements

In line with its natural constituents, the body easily adapts to the active compounds of herbal remedies and therefore promotes healing without ensuing negative physiological consequences. Today, herbalists have come up with standardized herbal supplements for anxiety and panic attacks, such as PureCalm, which have been formulated from the expert combination of lemon balm, lavender, and passion flower extracts, and prepared in a concentrated tincture format to holistically promote the routine functions of a healthy nervous system. Using herbal supplements such as PureCalm to calm nervous tensions during the day will give you that perfect peace of mind you have been yearning for all along.

Sydney G asked:

I’m kind of skeptical when it comes to taking pills for every ache or pain, and was wondering if anyone knew some good herbal remedies/ concoctions that can be safely and effectively used and made for treatment of everyday symptoms, or in place of pills/ chemicals.

Such as Headache, tooth/mouthache, dry skin, oily skin, acne, redness, tanning accelerators, short or brittle nails, grease stains on clothes, hair lightening/darkening, that hard, crusty skin on your heels, make up remover, etc.

Urinary tract infections may be common to the female species due to their shorter urethra’s but this doesn’t imply that males are impervious to this type of systemic disorder. The article will discuss briefly the common causes, symptoms, related risks and herbal remedies that can be administered to men suffering from bouts of urinary tract infection.

Common Causes

Most men may acquire the infection later on in life but the causes are practically similar to UTI in women. Male UTI can develop into an infection of the upper urinary tract and then step up to infect the kidneys as well. Once the infection penetrates the circulatory system; deterioration of systemic health follows due to a weakened immune system and digestive function.

UTI in young men typically develops from an unhealthy lifestyle particularly due to drug dependence and promiscuity. In some other cases, the infection comes as a symptom of more serious illnesses such as kidney stones formation and gallstones; development of an expanding prostrate and/or urinary tract damage. Men considered high risk to UTI includes diabetics, patients with spinal cord disorders and those who have been catheterized.

Symptoms

Indicators of an infected urinary tract may include painful penile discharge; throbbing and frequent urination, along with muscular pains on the lower back. At times, blood oozes out with the stream of urine, particularly when the person is infected with sexually transmitted diseases or STD. Meanwhile, chills, nausea, and fever are symptoms of an infection that has progressed to the kidneys.

Herbal Remedies

Immediate treatment is necessary to prevent the infection from reaching and affecting the circulatory and immune system. The intake of antibiotics to relieve the pain could only worsen the situation. Anti-bacterial medicine is immuno-suppressive that could trigger serious side-effects; particularly for men suffering from recurring symptoms. In this case, the healing benefits of herbal remedies can be utilized to relieve the symptoms and promote systemic healing.

Herbal remedies such as Buchu and Bearberry have been popularly administered as herbal infusions in the practice of alternative medicine for many, many years in line with the cleansing benefits of its extracts that clear infection-causing pathogens which contaminate the urinary tract. St. John’s Wort is another popular herb incorporated with medications due to its commendable healing properties.

Said herbals form part of the formulation of herbal supplements such as UTI-Clear, a standardized herbal supplement formula prepared in tincture form. Its potent formula helps flush out toxins while retaining the normal balance of the urinary system.

Urinary tract infection can be avoided by conforming to pertinent hygienic practices along with the regular intake of water and other fluids. But in cases where the urinary tract has already succumbed to infection; it is best to opt for herbal remedies for a safe and holistic way of healing.
