I know that you can’t buy painkillers if you’re under 16, does this also apply to herbal medicines?

Dry/ sensitive skin home remedy?

Lito asked:

the skin on my arms (from the shoulder down) is and has always been for as long as i can remember, extremely dry. It doesnt itch or anything, but it always feels rough and bumpy. Sometimes in the shower I will put on this Vaseline cocoa butter body oil, and the next day my arms are smooth, but it makes everything really greasy and like I said it only lasts for a day.
I drink plenty of water, in fact thats pretty much all I drink. And I’m pretty good about eating healthy and taking vitamins. I’m wondering if theres some sort of home remedy or herbal solution for this problem, because I really would like this problem to be solved long term.
Thanks for your help!

Favorite home cold remedies?

Passing_shadow asked:

What do you do when you have a cold? Drink certain kinds of herbal tea, cayenne&honey (does that really work, and does anyone know how its’ actually made? I’ve only heard it mentioned as a vague suggestion), steam, etc… I’m especially curious about more unusual remedies, rather than “take vitamin C and rest.”

My girlfriend has had stomach problems for two years, and has been unsuccessfully checked out by doctors over and over again, but we are finding the problem may be simpler than we thought as it is temporaraly cured by mylanta. What herbal medicines would you recomend to aid in healing her digestive system?

Herbal Remedies For Bed Wetting

In children under the age of five or so, the most common cause of bed-wetting is simply the size of the bladder; it is often just too small to hold enough urine to last through the night every single night. Thankfully, this type of bed-wetting is usually outgrown. Occasional bed-wetting by older children usually stops spontaneously by the teenage years. It should be said that underlying illness such as a urinary tract infection or diabetes may also result in bed-wetting.

Bed-wetting, known in the medical community as enuresis, is the act of ********* in bed habitually and, especially, involuntarily. Bed-wetting is common in early childhood. It also occurs sometimes in early adulthood and frequently among the aging. The causes are often unknown. The are popular theories that center on:

* Behavioral disturbances

* Very sound sleeping

* Consumption of too much liquid before bedtime

* Dreaming about using the rest room

* Food allergies

* Heredity

* Stress

* Nutritional deficiencies

* Psychological problems (one of the most common factors in young adults)

Bed-wetting is often caused by food allergies. Omit cow’s milk, which is highly allergenic, from the diet. Also eliminate from the diet carbonated beverages, chocolate, refined carbohydrates (including junk food), and products containing food coloring.

Do not ***** for scold a child for bed-wetting. This only complicates the problem. Instead, give rewards for NOT wetting the bed.

Studies have shown of several cases of bed wetting (among children and adults) that were relieved within a matter of days when supplement of certain nutrients were supplied. Magnesium, vitamin B2, and pantothenic acid. In addition, all allergy causing foods were removed from the diet.

Zinc has been shown to improve bladder function.

This is Mary Preus' second book about herbs. The first, "Growing Herbs", covered the basics but was limited in scope. This book expands on the first, guiding the reader deeper into the world of herbs as well as describing 50 of the best-known herbs in detail. While the book is focussed on growing herbs in the Pacific Northwest, it would be a useful book for herb lovers anywhere.

The writer was for 20 years owner of the Silver Bay Herb Farm in Washington State. In the first 80 pages of the book she shares her extensive knowledge of herb growing basics and of using herbs for cooking, healing and crafts. She includes plenty of recipes that are both imaginative and practical. In this section also she explains how to plan and build different types of herb gardens, and how to harvest and preserve herbs.

Most of the book, however, is a detailed look at 50 species of herbs. The writer includes information about planting, propagation, pets and diseases, harvesting and uses for cooking, healing and crafts. I particularly liked the information about the chemical elements found in each species and their value in balanced healing and a healthy diet.

This is a thoughtfully written book from a knowledgeable and experienced herb gardener. The book ends with a calendar of seasonal tasks in the herb garden, a list of the herb gardens open in the region, sources for plants and seeds, and publications and societies of interest to herb gardeners.
